The Transfiguration
On the high mountain Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James, and John, his face shining as Moses and Elijah appear in glory beside him (Matthew 17). An oil on copper by the Danish painter Carl Bloch (1879).

Carl Heinrich Bloch was a Danish painter best known for the 23-painting cycle on the life of Christ commissioned for the Chapel of Frederiksborg Castle (1865–1879). His warmly lit, intimate scenes are among the most widely reproduced devotional images of the 19th century.
