The Woman at the Well
Resting at Jacob's well in Samaria, Jesus asks a woman for a drink and offers her the living water that springs up to eternal life (John 4). An oil on copper by the Danish painter Carl Bloch (1879).

Carl Heinrich Bloch was a Danish painter best known for the 23-painting cycle on the life of Christ commissioned for the Chapel of Frederiksborg Castle (1865–1879). His warmly lit, intimate scenes are among the most widely reproduced devotional images of the 19th century.
