The prophet Elijah announces a drought upon the land and is sent to hide by the brook Cherith, where ravens bring him bread and meat (1 Kings 17). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his illustrated Old Testament.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
