Jesus Carried to the Tomb
Joseph of Arimathea takes the body of Jesus, wraps it in clean linen, and lays it in a new tomb hewn from the rock (Matthew 27). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

Depicted passages
French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
