Apparition of Jesus to Mary Magdalene
Outside the empty tomb the risen Jesus speaks Mary Magdalene's name, and she turns to him, but he tells her not to hold him, for he has not yet ascended (John 20). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
