Miriam Shut Out from the Camp
Struck with leprosy for speaking against Moses, Miriam is shut outside the camp for seven days while the people wait before journeying on (Numbers 12). A gouache by the French painter James Tissot.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
