On the night of the Lord's passing over Egypt, Israel's households eat the lamb in haste with the blood marked on their doorposts, ready to depart (Exodus 12). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his illustrated Old Testament.

Depicted passages
French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
