The wayward son who squandered everything returns home in rags, and his father runs to embrace him while the dutiful older brother looks on (Luke 15). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
