The Adoration of the Shepherds
Following the angel's word, the shepherds hurry to Bethlehem and find Mary, Joseph, and the child lying in a manger, then return glorifying God (Luke 2). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
