The Accursed Fig Tree

Coming hungry to a fig tree that bears only leaves, Jesus declares that it will never bear fruit again, and at once the tree withers away (Matthew 21). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
