The Pilgrims of Emmaus on the Road
On the road to Emmaus two disciples walk with the risen Jesus, not knowing him, as he opens the Scriptures and explains all that was written of the Christ (Luke 24). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

Depicted passages
French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
