The Poor Lazarus at the Rich Man's Door
The beggar Lazarus lies covered with sores at the rich man's gate, longing for the scraps from his table while the dogs come and lick his wounds (Luke 16). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
