Bound and led away after his arrest, Jesus is brought first before Annas, the father-in-law of the high priest Caiaphas, for questioning (John 18). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
