The Vine Dresser and the Fig Tree
In the parable, a man would cut down a barren fig tree, but the vinedresser pleads to dig and tend it one more year in hope that it will bear fruit (Luke 13). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
