The Washing of the Feet
At the last supper Jesus rises, girds himself with a towel, and washes the feet of his disciples, teaching them to serve one another (John 13). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his life of Christ.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
