Psalm 143:8

This verse is a morning prayer asking God for fresh assurance of His love and clear direction for the day's path. "Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning" longs for a daily, renewed sense of God's steadfast love at the start of each day, like the first thing one wants to hear on waking. The psalmist, in distress, seeks reassurance of God's covenant love before facing what lies ahead.

Two requests anchor the verse, each paired with a reason. First, "cause me to hear thy lovingkindness... for in thee do I trust" -- the plea rests on trust already placed in God. Second, "cause me to know the way wherein I should walk... for I lift up my soul unto thee" -- the request for guidance flows from a soul lifted toward God in dependence. Together they show what it means to begin a day rightly: seeking both God's love and His direction, grounded in trust and surrender. The verse models a prayer for anyone facing an uncertain day: ask to be reminded of God's love, ask to be shown the right path, and lift the whole self toward Him from whom both come.
