St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church

About this church

St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church stands at 228 Salem Street in downtown Chico, one block from Chico State. Sunday Bible studies for children and adults begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Sung Family Mass at 10:00. The service includes hymns, choir music, chant, a sermon, and Holy Communion from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Children join their families for worship after class and may receive a blessing at the rail; confirmed children may receive Communion. Nursery care is available for the youngest visitors. The site also lists Wednesday Communion at 6:00 p.m., with seasonal wording that warrants confirmation.

The parish belongs to the Anglican Province of Christ the King and uses the King James and Coverdale Bibles alongside traditional Anglican liturgy. Classical organ music, a choir, stained glass, and the congregation’s renovated historic Neo-Gothic church create a markedly different atmosphere from a contemporary praise service. Women’s fellowship organizes hospitality, congregational events, fundraising, and international support, while clergy lead instruction, Bible study, visitation, and youth formation. Newcomers are told that the worship may take time to understand—helpful candor for anyone unfamiliar with traditional Anglican practice. Arriving for the 9:00 study hour offers the fullest introduction before Mass.
