First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica

About this church

First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica holds its Sunday service at 10 a.m., both onsite and online, with orders of worship and past services available on its website and YouTube channel. The congregation follows Jesus through love of God and neighbor, compassion, personal transformation, and social justice. It explicitly welcomes people across age, race, citizenship, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, faith background, and economic circumstance. The church celebrated 150 years in Santa Monica in 2025, documenting its history through photographs, artifacts, interviews, and a newly expanded congregational history.

Practical hospitality is strong: a free underground garage sits across 11th Street under “Church Parking” signs, and both garage and campus are described as fully accessible. Children and youth programs follow Safe Sanctuaries practices, while a preschool founded in 1948 emphasizes health, safety, and well-being. Outreach includes Westside Food Bank collections and volunteer shifts, housing partnerships for homeless families, support for pregnant women and children, school-supply drives, and international Methodist relationships. A summer Youth Service Project teaches teamwork and home repair while serving families in need. First-time families should confirm current nursery ages, Sunday class placement, Communion practice, and whether online worship is live or prerecorded that week.
