Living Hope Of Calvary Church

About this church

Living Hope of Calvary Community Church meets at 1431 Elmwood Avenue in Evanston. Sunday worship runs from 10:15 a.m. to noon and is available both on site and through a Facebook stream. Prayer meeting is Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.; women's Bible study meets Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00; and men's Bible study meets Saturday from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The congregation describes itself as Christ-centered, Bible-believing, multi-ethnic, and multicultural.

The church's roots in Evanston reach back to 1882, when Swedish Baptists began holding gospel services in homes and a school building. Today Living Hope emphasizes honest relationships, discovering and strengthening spiritual gifts, and responding to need with the principle, “Where you see a need, you are needed.” Its statement of faith presents baptism and the Lord's Supper as the two ordinances of the local church, while its resources include video, audio, testimonies, and a calendar. The current weekly schedule offers more than a Sunday listing: adults can compare prayer, women's, and men's gatherings across three different days, and remote visitors have a named streaming route. That combination of historic Baptist roots and an explicitly multi-ethnic present is central to the congregation's identity.
