St Joseph Catholic Church

About this church

St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion is a Diocese of Belleville parish that works together with St. Paul Catholic Church in Johnston City as one parish community. During Ordinary Time, weekend Mass at St. Joseph is Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and St. Paul has a Sunday Mass at 9 a.m. Confession is offered at St. Joseph on Saturdays from 4 to 4:30 p.m. and by appointment. Weekday Mass and morning prayer times have been changing, so the parish points visitors to the weekly bulletin for the current schedule. Check all times on the website before visiting.

Youth faith formation meets in the parish Family Life Center, led by volunteer catechists. Pre-K through fifth grade meets on Wednesday evenings, and sixth through twelfth grade meets on Sunday evenings. Second graders prepare for First Reconciliation and First Communion, older students prepare for Confirmation, and Vacation Bible School runs each summer. Adults who want to become Catholic can ask about the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). The parish also offers Eucharistic adoration and liturgical ministries. Couples planning a wedding should give about a year's notice. For Catholic schooling, the parish refers families to Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Herrin (pre-K through eighth grade). To join the parish, return a registration form to the parish office. The office phone is (618) 993-3194.
