First Lutheran Church

About this church

First Lutheran Church is an ELCA congregation in Detroit Lakes with a schedule that changes around summer. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, traditional worship meets Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and contemporary worship meets outdoors at 10:30. From September through May, one blended Sunday service begins at 9:30, and a shorter contemporary Wednesday service meets at 6 p.m. The church also livestreams worship, broadcasts on local radio, and televises a recording for people unable to attend.

Worship is shaped by Word and sacrament, with Communion offered on designated Sundays and holy days. A community supper precedes the school-year Wednesday service, followed by ministries for children and youth. Children's formation explores how families follow Jesus in daily life, while the student pathway begins with pre-confirmation in sixth grade and continues through confirmation and youth ministry. The congregation describes its mission as opening doors, inviting people into relationship with Jesus, building faith, and sending people to serve. Visitors should choose the seasonal time that matches their date and check weather notices before relying on the outdoor summer service.
