East Sylva Baptist Church

About this church

East Sylva Baptist Church begins Sundays with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and morning worship at 11:00. The adult choir sings in the service, the pastor preaches from Scripture, and nursery care is available. Sunday School functions as small-group Bible study with classes for men, women, couples, young adults, youth, children, and nursery-age children. That range gives a newcomer a practical choice: attend worship alone or arrive early for a group organized around age or life stage.

The congregation traces its beginnings to 1927, when a Sunday school started in a community member’s home to serve the Pleasant Hill area. Its founding commitment to world evangelization continues through children’s and youth programs, mission projects, and women-led partnerships such as Operation Christmas Child and local assistance organizations. East Sylva has also used local radio since the 1970s; WRGC rebroadcasts the Sunday morning service at 6:00 p.m. This is a recognizably local Baptist church with choir-led worship, a deep Sunday School culture, long-running radio outreach, and a mission story tied to the surrounding community rather than a generic campus model.
