St Mary's Catholic Church

About this church

St. Mary Mother of God Parish celebrates a Spanish vigil Mass Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and English Masses Sundays at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. at 22 Bartlett Street in Sylva; the later Sunday liturgy includes some Latin chant. Weekday Masses are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 9:00, plus Spanish Mass Wednesday at 6:15. Confession is available four days each week and by appointment.

Faith Formation for kindergarten through grade twelve meets Wednesday evenings during the academic year from 6:45 to 8:00, followed by prayer and announcements; parents attend formation alongside their children. Adults exploring Catholicism can enter the parish’s OCIA process for teaching and sacramental preparation. The parish also supports Catholic campus ministry at Western Carolina University, including a 4:00 p.m. Sunday campus Mass during fall and spring semesters. Its bilingual food pantry opens on second and fourth Saturdays from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., providing food, household, hygiene, and baby items. Visitors can choose the Spanish vigil, a straightforward English morning Mass, or the later English service with Latin chant according to language and liturgical preference.
