St. Mark's Orthodox Church

About this church

St. Mark’s Orthodox Church begins the Sunday Hours at 9:10 a.m. and celebrates Divine Liturgy at 9:30 at 452 Durham Road in Newtown, followed by fellowship around 11:15. Great Vespers and confession are offered Saturdays at 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday’s 9:15 Akathist is followed by adult education. The parish particularly recommends Vespers as an accessible first experience of Orthodox worship’s beauty and dignity.

St. Mark’s was founded on November 15, 1972, by a small group seeking a parish open to Orthodox Christians of every national background. Its first meetings and services took place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Doylestown. Today the calendar includes feast-day liturgies, vigils, education, charitable work, and pastoral appointments; visitors may contact the priest with questions about Orthodoxy or to arrange counseling or confession. The weekly pattern helps a newcomer choose an entry point: Saturday evening for Vespers, Sunday morning for the principal Eucharistic liturgy and fellowship, or Wednesday morning for prayer followed by discussion. Feast and fasting seasons can alter the calendar, so confirm the current bulletin before traveling for a weekday service.
