Holy Light Church of Deliverance

About this church

Holy Light Church of Deliverance opens Sunday with intercessory prayer at 9:30 a.m., followed by Morning Worship and all-age Sunday School at 10 at 1918 Lincoln Street in Portsmouth. Worship Wednesday begins at 7 p.m. and is streamed on Facebook Live. Sunday and Wednesday broadcasts, plus an archive of more than 425 services, give newcomers a substantial sample of the church's preaching and worship before they enter the building. The church describes itself as a place where people may come as they are, hear an uncompromised Word, find wholeness, and belong.

For fifty-seven years, Holy Light has understood its Portsmouth ministry as a refuge and beacon known as “The Lighthouse.” Its beliefs emphasize God, the saving grace of Jesus, the indwelling and empowering Holy Spirit, and upright life guided by Scripture. The breadth of ministry is unusually visible: multiple choirs and praise teams sit alongside children's church, Vacation Bible School, a tutorial summer camp, a scholarship program, and Holy Light College of Bible. Community care includes a food pantry, substance-abuse ministry, health awareness, convalescent visits, transportation, prayer, and groups for marriages, singles, and mature adults. A first visit can begin with prayer before the 10 o'clock service or through the broadcast archive. People looking to serve can compare music, education, care, hospitality, media, safety, and operations teams instead of relying on a generic volunteer form.
