Methodology & Editorial Standards
How we review
Every Learn of Christ resource review is independent. No sponsorships, no affiliate links, no pay-to-play — here's exactly how we evaluate and score each app, website, and book.
Independence
We do not accept payment, free subscriptions, or affiliate commissions in exchange for a review or a higher score. We are not paid by the developers, publishers, or ministries we cover, and a product's rating is never for sale. When we link to a product's official site, that link is marked nofollow and earns us nothing.
How we score (0–5)
Each resource gets a single editor rating from 0.0 to 5.0. The score is a judgment, not a formula, but it is anchored to the same set of questions every time:
- Does it do its core job well? A Bible app is judged first on reading and study; a commentary site on the quality and depth of its commentary; a book on whether it delivers what it promises.
- Who is it actually for? We weight a resource against the person most likely to use it, and say plainly who should skip it.
- Value for the money. Free tiers, subscription cost, and what you give up on the free plan all factor in.
- Honesty about tradition. Many of these resources serve a specific Christian tradition. We describe the tradition a resource serves rather than grading it on whether we agree with it.
- Trustworthiness and longevity. Stability, track record, privacy posture, and whether the team behind it is still actively maintaining it.
How each review is built
Reviews follow a consistent structure so they're easy to compare: a verdict and rating up top, clear pros and cons, who it's best for and who should avoid it, a pricing breakdown, feature deep-dives, where it falls behind, a head-to-head comparison with the leading alternatives, and a short list of those alternatives. We draw on hands-on use, the provider's own documentation and pricing, and the resource's standing within the tradition it serves.
Updates & corrections
Software, pricing, and books change. We revisit a review and adjust its score when pricing, features, or market position shift, and every review shows the date it was last updated. If you spot something out of date or inaccurate, tell us on the about pageand we'll fix it.
Who writes these
Resource reviews are written and edited by Jaeden Schafer, the founder of Learn of Christ — a Bible teacher, host of the Learn of Christ podcast and AI in Faith, and a lifelong student of Scripture. Learn of Christ is a free, ad-free Bible study project; the resources section exists to help readers find genuinely useful tools, not to sell them anything.
