Having taken Zion, David makes it his home. The fortress that once defied him becomes his dwelling, and the people give it a new name tied forever to him: the city of David. A place is renamed by the one who claims it.
There is a deep truth here about belonging. A stronghold becomes a home only when the king takes up residence within it. So too the human heart, once a fortress of resistance, is renamed and made new when the rightful King comes to dwell there. Where Christ takes up residence, the place bears His name.
