What Does 1 Chronicles 17:14 Mean?
The promise reaches its height. God will settle David's son in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established for evermore. Notice the shift: it is now God's house and God's kingdom in which the heir is set. The Davidic throne is not a rival to God's reign but is taken up into it. The king will sit secure within the very kingdom of God.
Here the words refuse to be contained by any earthly dynasty. A throne for evermore, set within God's own everlasting kingdom, is the throne of Christ, of whose kingdom there shall be no end.
