What Does 1 Chronicles 2:16 Mean?
The chronicler now names David's two sisters, Zeruiah and Abigail, and the three sons of Zeruiah, Abishai, Joab, and Asahel. These nephews of David would become some of the mightiest and most fearsome men in his army and reign. The family record widens to include the warriors who would stand close to the king.
Joab and his brothers were valiant and fiercely loyal, yet their story would also hold bloodshed and hard ambition. Even within the king's own household, courage and sin walked together. The chronicler does not pretend otherwise.
