What Does 1 Chronicles 22:19 Mean?

David closes his charge with the heart of the matter. He calls the princes to set their whole heart and soul to seek the LORD, and then to arise and build the sanctuary that will house the ark of the covenant and the holy vessels.

Before the building of the house comes the seeking of God himself; outward work must flow from inward devotion. The sanctuary exists to bring God's people near to his presence, dwelling among them. So we are called to seek the LORD with all that we are, that our lives may become a fit dwelling for him who longs to dwell with us.

1 Chronicles 22:19 in the Original Language

darash (דָּרַשׁ), 'seek' -- to search out, inquire after, and devote oneself wholly to God.
