1 Chronicles 24:7 Meaning and Explanation

The roll call of the twenty-four courses now begins. As each lot is drawn, a name and its order are recorded -- the first to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah -- fixing when each family would take its turn of service at the house of God.

Each name marks a real family entrusted with a real share of holy work. The God who numbers the stars also numbers his servants and gives each a place in turn. There is dignity in being counted among those who serve, even when one's task is simply to wait for one's appointed week and then be faithful in it.
