Jeconiah, also called Jehoiachin or Coniah, reigned only a brief time before being taken captive to Babylon, where he lived out long years in exile. With him the visible kingship of David's house effectively ended, and the dynasty seemed to come to a halt.

Yet this very Jeconiah appears in the genealogy of Jesus, a name that prophets had nearly written off. What looked like the dead end of a royal line became instead a hidden seedbed. God kept the line alive through exile, so that from a captive house the true King would one day be born.
