1 Kings 11:35 Meaning and Explanation

The timing of the judgment is restated. The kingdom will be taken not from Solomon but from his son, and ten tribes will be given to Jeroboam. The penalty deferred for David's sake will fall in the next generation, and the prophetic word fixes Jeroboam as its recipient.

Sin's consequences often reach beyond the one who commits them, touching children and generations to come. Solomon's compromise will cost his son the greater part of the kingdom. Yet the same God who allows these consequences also works through them, and the division now decreed becomes part of the long story leading to the coming of Christ.
