What Does 1 Kings 18:14 Mean?
For the third time Obadiah returns to his dread: to announce Elijah is to risk being killed by Ahab. The repetition shows a man wrestling out loud with the weight of what he is being asked to do.
Scripture does not rebuke him for naming his fear. Honesty before God and His messengers is no sin. Yet Obadiah will still obey, and that is the heart of faith: not the absence of fear, but the choice to do God's bidding in spite of it. The trembling servant who acts is dearer to heaven than the bold one who does nothing.
