What Does 1 Kings 2:6 Mean?
Having named Joab's bloodguilt, David entrusts the matter to Solomon's discernment: 'do according to thy wisdom.' Joab's 'hoar head' -- his gray hair, the sign of long life -- must not simply slip into the grave as though his deeds were forgotten. Justice deferred must not become justice denied.
This is sobering counsel, and Solomon will act on it. Beneath it lies a serious truth: a kingdom built on unanswered murder cannot stand secure. David, who himself had known mercy after grievous sin, knew also that some debts of innocent blood must be settled if the throne is to rest in true peace.
