David closes his charge concerning Shimei by leaving the judgment to Solomon's wisdom: 'thou knowest what thou oughtest to do.' Shimei is not to be held guiltless, for his curse against the LORD's anointed was no light thing. David's own oath had spared him, but it had not declared him innocent.
