1 Kings 21:22
“And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.”

Read Full Chapter →Ahab is compared to two earlier northern kings who provoked God's wrath through idolatry and violence.
Context
Jeroboam I set up golden calves to keep his people from traveling to Jerusalem. Baasha rose to power through murder and also pursued idolatry. Both had their houses swept away. Ahab is now grouped with them.
What Does 1 Kings 21:22 Mean?
Repetition of sin brings repetition of judgment. What is tragic about Ahab is not that he is unique in his rebellion, but that he chooses to repeat the sins of those who came before him, having seen their ruin. The prophets testified, the lessons were written in history, and yet he provoked the LORD to anger afresh. He had history to guide him, covenants to remind him, yet he chose darkness.
We inherit a cloud of witnesses, a long history of human failure and divine faithfulness. When we ignore the lessons of those who went before, we inherit their fate, not their exemptions.
Application
History teaches. Are we learning from the mistakes of others, or are we repeating them?
