A summary formula notes that Jehoshaphat's deeds and mighty acts are recorded in the official chronicles of Judah.

Context

This closing formula, parallel to the one used for Ahab, redirects readers to the fuller political and military record. Jehoshaphat's strength and wars are documented in the historical chronicles.

What Does 1 Kings 22:45 Mean?

The account pauses and points away: the rest of Jehoshaphat's acts, his displays of might and his wars, are written elsewhere. The sacred history makes note of the man and then gestures toward the fuller record kept by those who chronicle the kings. His strength is acknowledged, his campaigns are real, his power is evident. Yet the focus of the word of God is narrow and selective. It records his faithfulness, his walking in the way of Asa, his limitation in the high places, his peace with Israel. It does not linger over his military campaigns or the extent of his power.

This teaches us again the nature of biblical history. The sacred word is interested not in power for its own sake but in how power is used, how a king stands before God, how he listens or fails to listen to the prophets. Jehoshaphat's wars are real and noteworthy, but they do not ultimately matter as much as his heart's orientation, his willingness or reluctance to hear the voice of God speaking through his prophets.

Application

Do not measure your life by what the world counts as achievement. God measures what matters: your fidelity, your willingness to hear and obey his word, your compassion and justice. These are the marks of a life well-lived, and they alone endure.
