What Does 2 Kings 19:17 Mean?
Hezekiah does not deny the hard facts. Of a truth, he prays, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands. The boast in Sennacherib's letter was, in this much, perfectly accurate, and the king admits it plainly before God.
There is a deep honesty in this prayer. Hezekiah does not minimize the danger or pretend Assyria is weak; he grants the full weight of the threat and brings it, whole and undiminished, to God. Faith is not the refusal to see how grave things are. It is the willingness to set even the gravest truth before the Lord and trust Him with it.
