What Does 2 Kings 25:26 Mean?
After the murder of Gedaliah, the survivors panic. Dreading Babylon's revenge, the whole company, great and small alike, along with the army captains, flees down to Egypt. They abandon the land entirely and return to the very place God once delivered Israel from.
The flight to Egypt is a heartbreaking reversal of the exodus, the people going back, in fear, to the house of bondage. Fear had replaced the trust Gedaliah had urged. Yet God's purposes are not undone by human panic; even from Egypt and Babylon He would keep His promise and preserve a people for Himself.
