What Does 2 Kings 25:4 Mean?
At last the defenses give way. Under cover of darkness the fighting men slip out through a gate between the double walls, and the king himself escapes toward the open country of the Jordan valley. The Babylonians, however, still ring the city on every side.
There is something pitiful in a king fleeing his own capital by night. Earthly thrones and walls, however strong, cannot finally shelter those who have turned from God. The only refuge that does not fall is the Lord Himself, a stronghold no night and no army can breach.
