Context
The woman travels to Mount Carmel and arrives at Elisha's location. Elisha, seeing her approaching from afar, immediately identifies her to his servant Gehazi.
What Does 2 Kings 4:25 Mean?
The journey ends. 'So she went and came' is the simple statement of faith fulfilled in action. Mount Carmel is where she has found the man of God. And 'it came to pass'—the narrative now quickens—that Elisha sees her coming from a distance. His recognition is immediate and specific. Not just 'a woman is coming,' but 'that Shunammite'—the one he knows by name and by kindness received. She had shown him hospitality. She had prepared a room for him. And now, in her deepest need, he knows her at a glance.
This is the assurance we need in our own darkest moments: that God knows us, sees us coming before we arrive, and recognizes not just our faces but our names and our histories with him. Elisha had promised her a son. Now he sees her rushing toward him, and though he does not yet know why, he knows her. He turns to his servant and says, 'Behold, yonder is that Shunammite.' The man of God is already present to meet her need before she has spoken a word. Our God is the same: he sees us from afar, and he comes to meet us.
Application
God knows who you are. He does not forget those who have shown him faith and kindness. When you approach him in your need, you approach one who has already seen you coming.
