What Does 2 Samuel 1:10 Mean?
Here the messenger reaches the point of his whole errand. He claims to have killed the king and then stripped from him the crown and royal armlet, the emblems of kingship, which he now presents to David as my lord. He expects the gift to be welcomed by the man who will reign next.
His calculation is plain: he reads David's rise and offers proof that the rival is gone, hoping for favor and reward. But he has misjudged the heart before him.
