What Does 2 Samuel 16:5 Mean?
Reaching the village of Bahurim, David meets Shimei, a kinsman of the fallen house of Saul. Resentful of David's reign, Shimei comes out and curses the king continually as the royal party moves along the road.
The descent from Jerusalem has become a road of insult. An old grievance, long held, breaks out the moment the king seems weak. Yet David's coming response will show a man who fears God more than men, and who can bear reproach without returning it, a posture the Suffering Servant would one day perfect.
