What Does 2 Samuel 2:6 Mean?
Continuing his message, David asks the LORD to show these men kindness and truth, the paired qualities that describe God's own covenant character. He then pledges to do good to them himself in return for the good they have done, joining his own intention to the blessing he invokes from heaven.
Kindness and truth belong together; love that is not faithful is hollow, and truth without mercy is hard. David wishes upon others the very mercy he himself has received from God. In Christ these two meet perfectly, full of grace and truth, so that the kindness shown to us becomes the kindness we are freed to show to one another.
