What Does Acts 10:3 Mean?
The ninth hour — about three o'clock — was the hour of the evening sacrifice, when prayer rose in the temple and in devout homes (Acts 3:1). Cornelius is keeping that appointment when the vision comes, not dimly or in a dream, but evidently: plainly, in open sight.
Heaven speaks first. Before Peter preaches a word, before Cornelius asks a question, God takes the initiative — and he begins with a name. The seeking soldier is known in heaven personally, as Samuel was known, as Saul of Tarsus was known. Prayer kept at its hour becomes the doorway through which God enters a life.
