What Does Acts 10:36 Mean?
The sermon proper begins where Israel's hope had long pointed — the herald on the mountains announcing peace (Isaiah 52:7). God sent that word to the children of Israel, and its content is a person: peace by Jesus Christ.
Then the parenthesis that overturns every boundary in the room: he is Lord of all. If Jesus is Lord of all, then Lord of centurions and their households too — and the peace he makes is both peace with God and peace between peoples long divided. The gospel is peace with a universal address.
