What Does Acts 11:15 Mean?
Peter had scarcely begun his message when God interrupted the preacher: the Holy Ghost fell on Cornelius's household just as He had fallen on the Jewish believers at the beginning — Pentecost (Acts 2). They spoke in tongues and magnified God (10:46), unmistakably, before every witness present.
As on us at the beginning is the hinge of Peter's defense: God gave the same Spirit to Gentile and Jew alike, making no difference between them. For Cornelius's house this was their own Pentecost. The Spirit's coming is God's own testimony that He has received a people — and whom God publicly owns, no disciple may disown.
