What Does Acts 15:9 Mean?
Peter presses his point to its conclusion: God put no difference between us and them. The purity the law pursued through washings and separations, God has worked inwardly in the Gentiles — purifying their hearts by faith.
True cleanness was never finally a matter of diet or descent but of the heart, and only God can cleanse a heart. He does it, Peter says, as people place their faith in the Lord Jesus — trusting him, they are made clean within. This is why the gospel can cross every boundary on earth: it does not depend on ancestry or culture, and it reaches any heart that opens to the Lord in faith. The God who knows hearts is also the God who washes them.
