What Does Acts 22:13 Mean?
The first word the blinded persecutor hears from the church he came to destroy is 'Brother'. Ananias had every reason to fear Saul of Tarsus (Acts 9:13-14), yet he greets him as family and becomes the instrument of his healing, sent by the Lord himself.
That single word carries the whole gospel of reconciliation. In Christ the hunter has become a brother, and the first face Paul sees with healed eyes belongs to a man he had come to arrest. So the community of Jesus receives former enemies: forgiven people learn to forgive (Ephesians 4:32), and mercy received becomes mercy extended.
